Domino online: how to play

Play Domino with friends in EjaLuajm: connect tiles to the open ends of the table and try to finish your hand first. The end you choose for each tile shapes the next moves. Below are the rules of the version in the app.

How are the tiles dealt and who starts?

Domino uses 28 tiles with values from zero to six. At tables of four, each player gets five tiles; the rest stays in the reserve. A tile with the same number on both halves, such as 6–6, is called a double.

The first hand is opened by the player with the highest double among the dealt tiles, who plays exactly that tile. If nobody has a double, the game opens with the tile that has the highest total of pips. The following hand is opened by the winner of the previous one.

How do you place a tile?

On your turn, place a tile that matches one end of the chain. If the ends are 2 and 5, you can play a tile that has a 2 or a 5. For example, with the 2–6 tile on the 2 end, the new end becomes 6.

When a tile fits on both ends, you choose where to place it. Look at the tiles you have left too: it helps to leave a number you can continue with on your next turn.

When do you draw and when do you pass?

If you have no tile that fits, draw from the reserve until you find a playable tile or the reserve runs out. If you have a playable tile, you must place it; you cannot draw to look for another one.

Passing is only allowed when you have no move and the reserve is empty. If all players pass one after another, the table is blocked and the hand ends.

How are points counted?

The first player to run out of tiles scores the total of the pips left in the opponents' hands. In a blocked game, the player with the lowest total in hand wins; their pips are subtracted from the opponents' total. The first to reach 101 points wins the game.

So keep an eye on both the number of tiles and the pips you hold. A tile with many pips can give your opponent a big advantage at the end of the hand.
